Here at Nurture Academy our passion is ensuring that all children in the community can live their lives to the full.

To enable this and to allow carers in the community to give the best possible care to children and young people we provide specially developed training.

Our qualified and experienced children’s educators will support, train and develop the knowledge and skills required to deliver competent and compassionate care.

Our training is competence based and assessed against nationally recognised standards.

The child or young person remains at the heart of our training delivery.

Our training courses:

  • Basic Life Support:

This basic life support training course aims to help teach carers a basic knowledge of first aid – covering CPR, recovery position and choking. The course will teach the theoretical knowledge followed by the relevant practical “hands on” assessments to improve knowledge and skill. The course will allow carers to confidently respond to the child’s emergency.

  • Epilepsy Awareness and Buccal Medication Training:

The training will facilitate best practice guidelines and ensure that your carers will have the skills and knowledge to provide a safe, effective environment for your child.

  • Gastrostomy:

The training will facilitate best practice guidelines and ensure that the carers will have the skills and knowledge to provide a safe feeding via your child’s gastrostomy.

  • Home Ventilation:

This course will cover the anatomy and physiology of the respiratory system, the clinical skills involved in caring for a child or young person receiving ventilation as well as set up of a ventilator with both wet and dry circuits with a focus on trouble shooting. After completing this course, learners will feel more confident in all aspects of caring for a child or young person on a ventilator.

  • Moving and Handling:

Our moving and handling training course will help your carers to gain a greater understanding of how to manoeuvre your child safely by learning best practices to reduce any risk or harm.

  • Tracheostomy Care:

There will be both theoretical and practical aspects ranging from the anatomy and physiology of the respiratory system, suctioning a tracheostomy and emergency procedures in case something goes wrong.

  • Online Training:

To complement our face to face training, we offer a number of online modules which can be completed off site and at your own pace, all courses are part of the Skills for Health Quality Mark accreditation program.

  • Medication Administration:

This course will equip you with the knowledge and skills to be able to administer medication to children and young people.

  • Oral Suction:

This training is aimed at carers where suction is required.
Carers will be able to confidently set up and handle a suction machine and safely and effectively perform suction on their client with epilepsy.
